WAIL: To use sewing techniques to sew the outline of a picture by following a line.
We have been learning all about Goldilocks. Therefore, we thought it would be wonderful to link this to our EAD learning and to practise our sewing skills. The children used felt which they then drew their own picture of a bear on. The children were then given a plastic needle with some wool threaded. The teachers modelled to the children how to use a needle to sew the thread following a line. The children understood the importance of looking at the front and the back to ensure that they can see where they are placing their needle and wool. The children thoroughly enjoyed learning this new skill and we have some fabulous sewing to display.
WAIL: to understand that we use our mouth for the sense ‘taste’.
WAIL: to discuss what we can taste and what we like/do not like.
The children had an amazing time exploring the classic story of Goldilocks and the Three Bears while linking it to their science learning about the senses! Focusing on the sense of taste, we made porridge just like in the story and sampled it in different ways—plain, with golden syrup, and with salt. The children had a blast discussing the different flavours and voting for their favourite. Watching Mrs Fullbrook make the porridge was especially exciting! It was a fun, interactive learning experience that brought the story to life and sparked plenty of curiosity and conversation about taste. A great time was had by all!
