WAIL: To name and describe a variety of common woodland animals (badger, deer, fox, hedgehog, squirrel, mouse)
WAIL: To identify Shenley Woods as a small woodland environment in the immediate locality
We had a fantastic walk to the woods last week as part of our knowledge and understanding of the world learning. We all got wrapped up and went out in the cool autumn air to spot the seasonal changes as this time of year on our way to Shenley Woods. The children were excellent at spotting the changes in the leaf colours and lots having fallen to the floor, shedding their leaves ready for winter.
We made sure to use all of our senses as we searched for signs of the woodland animals we have been focusing on in class. We found some habitats belonging to squirrels, owls and a badger! The squirrel nests were huge and high in the trees which really surprised us!
We also noticed how close the woods are to our school and how easy it was to walk to them, we talked about this being a woodland environment in our locality.
