WAIL: To know who Guy Fawkes was
WAIL: To know the name of the King
(King James I) at this time
We had a fantastic week learning all about bonfire night and why we celebrate it. To begin our learning we focused on the story of the Gunpowder plot. The children were excellent at retelling and recalling the key facts of the story and we used talk partners to share what they could remember. The children were able to recall who Guy Fawkes was and why he was important in the celebrations. They could also recall that he was part of a plot to kill King James I. They understood that bonfire night is a celebration of the plot being found out!
We then talked about how to keep safe during bonfire night and children were able to identify the key safety rules when they are around fireworks and bonfires.
Lastly we shared how we celebrate bonfire night, talking about our family traditions at this time, special foods we eat, clothes we wear and the people we share the celebration with.
