Helping Us

Glastonbury Thorn School lies at the heart of the community and benefits from lots of helpers who are always welcome! The help we receive from parents/carers is invaluable and is much appreciated by the staff and governors; it also shows the value parents/carers place in children’s learning and children undoubtedly benefit from this.  If you are interested in helping in the school, please speak to any member of the teaching staff.

Parents/carers can help in many different ways, including:

  • Sharing skills and interests eg talking about their job, helping with computer activities
  • Listening to children read
  • Accompanying children on educational visits
  • Making learning resources and/or costumes for productions.

The teacher you are working with will always give you full instructions on what they would like you to do. Please do not hesitate to ask if you are unsure.

Safeguarding Children
Anyone helping in our school must read and sign our voluntary helper Code of Conduct available from the school office. If helping on a regular basis, a current DBS check is also required. This can be arranged through the school at no cost to the helper.

Confidentiality
Working in a school you may hear or see things of a highly confidential nature. We ask you to respect the fact this must stay confidential.

Policies
If you feel you are able to help on a regular basis it would be of benefit for you to familiarise yourself with our policies. These are freely available from the school office.

Students from the local secondary schools gain work experience by helping in our school.  Our children benefit from seeing positive role models make such worthwhile contributions.

Local businesses/organisations have also built up links with our school and we value their help.
