A cracking good time!

Our youngest learners within Foundation Stage have had a ‘cracking’ half term taking part in the ‘hatch a chick’ project in partnership with Mini Meadows Farm. The children were totally enthralled by this project, they excitedly waited and counted down the days from the minute our incubator was delivered with the precious eggs inside to the amazing day our first chick hatched! We learnt how to ‘candle’ the eggs to scan for signs of life inside, how to change the sensitive environment needed for the eggs to hatch and then how to care for our chicks once they had arrived safely into the world. The children loved watching, holding, feeding and taking great care of our new fluffy friends. They created art work based on the chicks, noticed and talked about their changes and enjoyed writing about them too. It was a fantastic unique educational experience which we hope will stay with the children forever. We plan to visit Mini Meadows farm in the summer term to see how our chicks are getting on, we are already looking forward to seeing how much they have grown!
