Reading and Writing

This week's story is Aaargh Spider! by Lydia Monks.

Aaaarrgghh, Spider! - Lydia Monks

All Spider wants is to belong to a family. The trouble is, she scares everyone too much! Poor Spider. How will she ever get people to like her?

Watch the video of the story and think about the following:

Would you like a spider as a pet?  What do you think your parents would say if you asked to keep a spider as a pet?

Make a list of all the things you know about spiders.  Spiders are … (parents to scribe things said)

Draw a picture of a spider and label it.  Write a sentence to say whether you like spiders and why.

Listen to the story again.  What did you like?  What didn't you like? Why?  What was your favourite part?  What did you think about the ending?  Where would you throw your spider out?  Draw a picture of the place you would throw your spider to and label it.  Write a sentence - Out you go to the x.

Think of some questions to ask about spiders.

Look a the Powerpoint below and watch the videos.  What facts did you learn?  Make an information book about spiders drawing pictures and writing words or sentences to record all the facts you have learnt eg Spiders have 8 legs.  Spiders eat flies etc.
