My school life was erratic to say the least. Started school at 5 years old at Newlyn Place First School in 1981, we were the first children at the brand new school in Fishermead. It was a lovely school with amazing teachers. I remember learning to read Bangers and Mash books.
At 7 years old I went to Springfield Middle over the bridge. It was a bigger school with new teachers but I loved my new teacher Ms Lizzie Bancroft, she was fun, bubbly and energetic. We had a class snake called Rocky but then at 10 years old my family moved to Scotland, to a small island called Bute. There, school was different. We had a uniform with a tie, the children made fun of my accent and I had to make new friends. At 12 we all went to the secondary school (there was only one on the island). I had different subjects and lots of teachers and more work! I struggled with Maths and History but loved English and Home Economics. I left school at 16.
Now I love to teach children. Everyday is definitely different and seeing joy in a child when they succeed is the best feeling in the world. Knowing that I can be part of so many children's journeys is a great honour.
