Using the picture cards below, practise oral blending. Talk like a robot and give your child the sounds in the word separately eg c - a - t. Your child needs to blend the word and hear the word cat. Practise with a few of the words until your child starts to feel more confident. They may need to practise sounding out and blending the word with you until they are able to blend the sounds on the own. If this is the case say the sounds together followed by the whole word d - o - g dog. If you child is still struggling with this break it down by giving the 1st sound and the chunk (onset and rime) at the end eg m-ud = mud. When they can do it with the first sound and the chunk at the end they are ready to move to the 3 separate sounds.
