Friday 20th November 2020

This week we have introduced the sounds o c k ck e.  The children have been developing different pre-reading skills that they will need before they will be able to read words.  This week we have been developing their skills in hearing the first sound in words using onset and rime (see videos on Tapestry 24.10.2020 to support).  We started with accentuating the first sound in words eg mmmmm - ap to help them hear the first sound more easily and then moved on to saying the first sound separately from the 2nd chunk in words.  Please practise by saying some 1 syllable words and asking your child what the first sound is eg d-og.  Your child should hear that the word starts with d.  Use other words such a g-oat, m-an, r-ug, s-un, d-ig, t-ap, a-nt, b-at, c-up, f-ish, h-ug, n-et.

Please put a short video on Tapestry to show how your child has progressed with this skill.
