The sounds we have learnt this week are n m d g o. Moving on from clapping the number of syllables in a word, we have been learning how to isolate syllables in a word. Your child will bring home a sheet with a list of compound words (2 words which make 1 word) eg car + park = carpark. Please practise isolating syllables by saying to your child - what is carpark without park. They should hear that the syllable car is left. Children find it easier to isolate if you remove the last syllable so start with this and when they are more confident start to remove the first word eg football - what is football without foot. Your child should hear that ball is left.
