Monday 11th January

WAIL To use the past tense

To know that some words change in the past tense

Learning journey

This activity will give the children some context for tomorrow's lesson, which refers to the story of 'The Magic Paintbrush' (there is a video at the end of this lesson for you to share the story with your child if you wish). We will meet Ma Liang, the painter, who will recount the story from his point of view.

The children will now be thinking about and writing an introduction for their recount. We will discuss ideas and write it on the planning sheet with our four pictures on, ready for Wednesday's lesson

I can write in the past tense

Learning journey

In this video the children will again explore using 'ed' to change words to the past tense, but will also be introduced to some irregular verbs (when the word changes go=went, have=had, for example). The spelling rule for changing words ending in 'e' to the past tense will also be covered.

There is a short activity for the children to rewrite some sentences in the past tense. If your child finds writing sentences tricky, we have included a sheet with them on, which have the past tense verb missing for them to complete.

There is a short challenge for those who are confident using past tense verbs.
